We want your dog to be happy and healthy this new year, so here's a great treat to start your new year off just right. Your dog will surely be begging for more!
Recipe:
1/2 cup of natural peanut butter (be sure to check the label)
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon of virgin coconut oil (or olive oil)
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour
Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl, add the peanut butter, honey, oil, and the chicken broth-whisk them together until combined.
In a separate bowl, combine the flours and the oats. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
Place the dough on a floured surface. Roll the dough out to about ¼" thickness.
Use any fun cookie cutter to make treat shapes.
Place the cut out cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 14-16 minutes
Transfer the cookies to a cooling rack until completely cooled. Store in a sealed container until your pup is ready for a heart healthy snack!
As a vet I have seen some terrible examples of dog poisoning over the Christmas period. In many cases the owner was totally unaware of the hidden dangers and was simply intending to be kind to their dog who was eager to share in the festive treats.
